TSA’s Book Rule Is Catching Travelers Off Guard

Did you know your favorite novel could slow you down at airport security? TSA might ask you to pull out your books for extra screening, especially if you’ve packed a bunch or your bag’s stuffed tight. Books can block X-ray views, so if you’re flying soon, pack them where you can grab them fast. Even random checks happen! Save yourself a headache and keep those page-turners easy to reach—no one wants a security line delay over a paperback. #TravelTips #TSA #AirportHacks #Travel

I’m actually a TSA “Agent,” which we’re not, we’re Federal Officers. If you knew what the behind the scenes were, you’d understand. We can give two licks what you read, it’s how books portray when looking at them via an X-ray. Please, give these frontline officer’s a break. It’s really hard to do such a thankless job, when all you hear are folks down playing such a tremendous, high stress job. We (no matter our title), all work a 365, 24/7 job, to make sure you all can read that book, or even read them on your kindle/E-reader. We have families, friends, and loved ones, who like yourselves, just want a seamless, quick path to the gate. But let’s not forget why we’re “complaining” in the first place. May we NEVER FORGET!! Thank you for letting this ever so PROUD TSA OFFICER say a few words.

When I go home to the US to visit family I tend to bring back a bunch of books after visiting… I plastic wrap them so they don’t get damaged…..

I had the worst time when I flew out on my last flight. I have an artificial leg and a spinal column stimulator implant. They asked if they could take me to do a more thorough search. I told them no because I have nothing to hide. TSA even called out a supervisor to scan me better and they also searched me carryon luggage. can't help it about my implant or my leg. Just have to deal with a search everytime I fly.

I've been pulled aside for extra searches so often when they don't search me it's amazing. Extra search for metal stud in shirt, extra search for jewelry in purse, extra search for safety pin in clothing, extra search for camera with film. It's rare I don't get searched.

If I ever travel by plane again (I hope not to, the airline industry not only is one of the worst polluters, but they also treat their customers like dog$#¡ ), I plan to stuff my carryon with as many books as I possible can. Carrying books on a plane is not illegal. Screw the TSA & its idiotic rules.

I carry an E Readr(Kindle) everywhere with me all the time. It holds lots of books and takes little space. when I shop for a new purse,if it fits is a main thing for me.

lol, just had that happen to me. Books in my carry-on, bag had to be hand-inspected. Asked why, was told books block the rest of the items. They flew on in checked baggage...
