When Trust Feels Like a Joke: My Family Took My Paycheck 😂🤦‍♂️

So, here's my story. For two months, I busted my back working with my dad in his construction business—10 hours a day, every day. I was told the pay would be good, and honestly, I needed the cash. But when the job wrapped up and I asked about my money, my dad just told me to wait. Weeks went by, and suddenly, there’s a shiny new car in our driveway. My mom casually mentions that my hard-earned money helped pay for it. I get it, I live with them and they support me, but shouldn’t they at least ask before using my salary? Every time this happens, they act like nothing’s wrong. I feel angry, confused, and honestly, pretty invisible. I don’t even care about the money anymore—I just wish they respected me enough to talk to me. What would you do if you were in my shoes? How do you rebuild trust when it feels so one-sided? Let’s talk, because I’m out of ideas. 😅🚗💸 #FamilyDrama #TrustIssues #MoneyMatters #RomanticRelationships

Don't ever work for your selfish dad again - open up a checking/savings account in your name only if you can - this is called stealing in my book!

Get a real job away from family and move out. They will miss all the luxury items you have helped them buy.....

Wait. You were hired legally, taxes and all? Go file a wage theft claim at the Department of Labor. It’s illegal to hire you and then not pay or under pay. That’s wage theft and he could lose a lot of money with fines and stuff. They will also investigate whether he’s done it before, likely through forensic accounting. You need to find a real job and move out. You don’t say how old you are but if you’re a minor, and you can’t leave, you can report them for financial abuse, which could let you sue for emancipation. If you’re over 18, get a job and leave. Ask your dad one more time for your pay “Dad, can I have my money from working for you or is this wage theft?”

My family was the same way. I was promised $100 to paint every room inside a house, hang 2 doors and sand a floor, in addition to cleaning and varnishing. When they got their pay from the realtor, suddenly, "we've decided you're going to invest in the company " and they gave me $15. It never gets better. Even when I had another job away from them, my mother would go to my office before I got there on payday and say she wanted to pick up my check to put it in the bank. I never even saw it. Get away from these thieves, whatever it takes!

Go get a different job - you now have the experience. Oh and open an account with only your name on it. Hopefully, they won’t stick you with a college bill and say you should have earned your way.

If you completed tax documents, it is illegal for pay to be used/stolen by your parents. Your father could lose his business behind it. Should you choose con your state Department of Labor to report it and find another job, do not give access to your bank account to anyone.

Grow up and leave home. I don’t care if they are your parents. That’s a particularly nasty way to treat one’s child.
