Southwest’s Bag Fee Drama: What a Mess!

Southwest ditching its ‘bags fly free’ perk is already causing chaos. Now, you’ll pay $35 for your first checked bag, and everyone’s scrambling to carry on instead. Experts say this will mean way longer lines at check-in and at the gate—plus more delays, just in time for summer travel. People are already saying Southwest is ‘no better than a bus’ now. Is this the end of stress-free flying? #SouthwestAirlines #TravelFail #BagFees #Travel

I've worked for Southwest Airlines for ten years. Those of us on the front lines are committed to doing our part to make everything work just as efficiently as possible. This change did not come overnight. We value our customers and are going to do everything we can to make your experience a good one. You all pay my paycheck. I respect that you do, and treat you like a guest in my living room when you are on my flight.

I no longer will use Southwest as an option. The no baggage fees is what made their flights more reasonable. Now they are priced like every other airline and I mind as well get more comfort from another airline.

I have been a Southwest chick for years… it used to be because I didn’t have to pay for the first two check in bags AND the tickets were cheap. No problem…I was still a Southwest chick, only because I didn’t have to pay for the first two bags because the tickets weren’t cheap…They long ago stop being cheap and I stayed… and their $29 airfares was never to any place that I wanted to go…lately I’ve been hearing that on flights that are shorter than three or four hours they’re finding a way to avoid giving the half can of soda, and that bag of pretzels, due to non existent turbulence so you’re not even getting that… So tell me Southwest why should I stay? Tickets aren’t cheap, 1st two bags are no longer free what’s the draw?

If the airlines enforced carry on bag size it would be a problem. Next time you fly, look at the bags people carry on and look at the sizing device and you’ll see many bags are oversized for carry on.

Yea, not happy with the bag fees. Why not st least offer first bag free , plus they are making so many flights where you need to change.

I fly often. I used to fly SWA often. I have enough status that I can still check a bag at no cost on the rare occasions I do check a bag. After the policy change I did a status match on another airline and right now, I have no regrets. With the check bag change, the move away from open seating and the tweaks to the flight credits and loyalty program that are not in favor of the customer, I no longer see what separates them from the legacy carriers. Unless, they have a direct shot between point A and point B at a reasonable price, I just don't see me using them all that much. Sad, really. They used to be my 1st choice. Now they're my 3rd.

It’s business you can’t expect an airline to stay like it was 20 years ago and still stay operational, planes are more expensive, gas alone is more expensive. I loved all the perks too but I also know to keep any business operational it has to change with the times.

Why doesnt Trump sign an Executive Order banning baggage fees on U.S. domestic flights? All of his other Executive Orders are insane & it would save Americans $$$ ! 😆

I am using my points up and no longer will I fly swa if I can help it. loved flying on them and as a airline retiree from another airline i would often fly them over my own airline. this is so sad to see the company being destroyed by corporate greed.
