When I first saw the raised beds in my new backyard, they looked like something out of a wild nature documentary—six-foot weeds everywhere. I grabbed some gloves and just started pulling. It felt endless, but every root I yanked made the space look a little more like a garden and less like a lost forest. Once the weeds were gone, I found rich soil underneath. I tossed in some compost, mixed it up, and planted a few tomato and pepper seedlings. Watching those first green shoots pop up where weeds used to be was unreal.
