why did i grow gourds for weeks if bluebirds just want a pole?

Spent weeks growing these awesome gourds, dreaming of bluebirds filling my yard. I cleaned them out, drilled perfect holes, and hung them everywhere. I figured the birds would be lining up to move in. Turns out, bluebirds had other plans. They ignored my fancy gourd houses and picked an old metal pole leaning against my shed.
