Left Turns at Busy Intersections: Where Should You Wait?

Turning left at a busy intersection without a dedicated turn light always makes me nervous, especially when there’s no break in oncoming traffic. I used to wonder: should I wait behind the line or pull into the intersection while waiting for that yellow light? After talking to a driving instructor, I learned it’s actually safer—and usually legal—to move into the intersection when the light is green, so you’re ready to turn when it’s safe.
