My childhood friend just had a baby, and honestly, I’m not as happy as I expected to be. Mom once told me that women’s lifelong friendships are hard to maintain. They often get “stolen” by men and then by their kids, and before you know it, years go by without a word. Every time we chat, I’m shocked by the time gaps between messages. It’s like she’s slowly slipping away, becoming someone I used to know. I realize now that she’s not just my close friend anymore—she’s changed, and so have we. It’s bittersweet.
