My poor pup has been throwing up and having diarrhea for nearly three days with no relief. This morning, it got worse—blood in the stool and more blood in the vomit. I freaked out and skipped work to rush to the vet. They couldn't pinpoint the cause but noticed my dog had a fast heart rate and dehydration. After describing the symptoms, they recommended a blood test, X-rays, and overnight observation. Of course, the bill came out to $1,000 (even after some stuff was cut out). I felt like a broke single mom—struggling to pay the vet and even sneaking a peek at my bank balance to see if I could afford it. The emotional toll was real.
