Check Your Cans Before You Open Them! 🛑🥫

I’ve been storing canned foods for over 20 years, and I’ve learned the hard way how important it is to check before you open! If the can’s dented or feels light, it could be contaminated. If you hear a hiss when opening or if liquid squirts out, throw it away. And if it looks discolored or smells bad (especially tomato stuff), don’t risk it—get rid of it! Store cans in cool, dry places and check them regularly. Canned food can last a long time, but you gotta keep an eye on it. #CannedFoodTips #FoodStorage #FoodPreservation

Especially if you keep cans of pineapple for a long time. The contents in the can will cause it to swell up and explode if you attempt to open it and cause serious injuries.

canned C--rations were fed to us during the Vietnam War and still used by government agencies, probably up until 1980. what's that age, 1943 till 1973 ?

I look at every date on everything I buy before I put it in my basket. Some of the people who work in the stores does not know how to rotate product.

Agree. Canned goods can last a long time and yes you have to watch them. We organize ours by the type of food in the can and rotate. We don’t have any older than 3 years though. A good test is to just press down on the top of the can and if it hisses then throw it away. And when I see a dented can, I will take it to the customer service desk.

I always wash with dish detergent and water before I open my cans. I think of how they have been in places where bugs and rats could run all over them. I rinse real good afterwards.

Remove the paper label when ready to use and then wash the can. Just washing the top is not enough.
