I Found Cans in My Pantry That Are 8 Years Old – Is It Safe to Eat Them?! 😳🍲

Okay, guys, I had to do a little experiment today because I found two cans of Beanie Weenies in my pantry—one I bought yesterday, and the other... it’s been there for 8 years. So, naturally, I had to figure out if it’s still safe to eat. 🤔 We all know canned food lasts forever. But does it? I mean, one has an expiration date of June 2025, but the other one expired in 2017. 🤯 Here’s the thing: expiration dates don’t always tell the whole story. It’s all about how the can looks before you open it. Is it rusted? Is it swollen? Are the seams damaged? These are signs the food could be bad. I almost threw away some perfectly good cans just because they didn’t have a pretty label anymore. I don’t want to risk it with bad food, so I’m tossing anything that’s even a little questionable. Better safe than sorry, right? 🙅‍♀️ #FoodStorage#CannedFood#FoodPreservation

I worked in a medical facility and when the meds were outdated we would take the labels off the jars and stamp the new date on them. So I wonder if other companies do the same.

yes just open it, take out the product. Inspect the top of the can inside the can in the bottom of the can. If you don't see any rust, then you'd still eat it.

They actually hate to know that people know this because they're counting on people to look at the exempt date and throw the food away.So you're turningaround and go buy more?Start being smart keep your stuff don't throw it away.

They changed the dates years ago from expired to best by dates because it doesn’t expire. Check the can and if the can is patent it’s fine to keep. When you decide to check to see if edible check again for patency and open it. If it’s discolored or smelly throw it away. If not, taste. I’ve eaten some years past the best by date and they were fine and I had no ill effects. I grew up poor. I don’t throw away food unless I know it’s bad.

the dates on cans are " best eatin by dates ". claiming the products freshness. they are not expiration dates. the only ways to tell if canned food is bad is by the condition of the can and the product inside after its been opened. its a scam to get you to through out food so you have to buy more

Regardless of the age of the cans, it's not safe to eat cans.
