Mountains Didn’t Quiet My Mind

The air was thin, the silence louder than I expected. Twelve thousand feet up, knees aching, I waited for that promised sense of awe. Instead, I just felt exposed—like the mountains could see right through me. Everyone says nature heals, but sometimes it just gives you space to hear your own noise. I took photos I never posted. I told myself I was happy, but mostly I was just relieved to be alone with my mess, far from anyone who’d ask how I really was.
